10 Things To Do During Hong Kong’s Citywide Lockdown

In case you missed it, Hong Kong is expected to go through a citywide lockdown in mid-March 2022 whether we like it or not. However, it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom – why not make the most of the lockdown by choosing greener options, learning more about sustainability and helping others in need?

In addition to our most recent guide on how to have a greener lockdown, we’ve also come up with 10 things you can do at home to make the week fly by.

From enjoying your favourite veggie takeaways and decluttering the home to reading books about climate change with the kids (or solo), here’s how to make Hong Kong’s citywide lockdown a shade or two greener:

1. Have a drink

There’s not much we can do about the citywide lockdown, so why not break out the red wine – after all, studies have suggested that a glass or two might actually prevent Covid-19! If you haven’t yet tried natural, bio or organic wines, this might just be the perfect excuse to.

2. Support green F&B restaurants

Do your part in supporting Hong Kong F&B by ordering takeout and/or delivery mindfully. Opt for restaurants that minimise food packaging, and alternate between meat and veggie dishes to lighten your carbon footprint!

3. Stock up on supplies

Sure, the supermarket shelves may be looking rather empty ahead of Hong Kong’s citywide lockdown, but you can still shop strategically by choosing produce that lasts. Other items to stock up on include canned goods, dry pasta, rice and beans.

4. Pamper yourself

With beauty salons closed, learn how to make your own DIY scrubs and masks with ingredients you probably already have in the fridge.

Also, don’t let the dry and cold weather get the best of you – opt for these cruelty-free moisturisers to keep your skin hydrated.

5. Declutter the home

With many Hong Kong organisations currently in need, why not go through your household belongings once again to see what can be donated?

6. Entertain the kids

Keep the kids entertained during the Hong Kong lockdown with fun and educational activities you can do together, or stock up on books that will teach them how to take good care of the planet.

7. Curl up with a good book

With all that extra time on your hands, it’s the perfect time to catch up on some reading – especially when it’s about climate change and sustainability.

8. Watch some flicks

David Attenborough’s documentaries aren’t just informative – they’re also incredibly soothing with his signature voiceover. Then, learn more about the huge issue of food waste with six must-see documentaries.

10. Take care of your mental health and help those in need

Last but definitely not least, be sure to take care of your mental health during Hong Kong’s citywide lockdown. These are incredibly tough times for Hong Kong, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Make use of the city’s mental health resources and if you can, reach out to local charities to lend a hand.
