8Shades Of… Juliana Lam of Innotier

As Omicron makes its way around the world, masks are still very much part of everyday life to protect ourselves and others from getting Covid-19. Unfortunately, disposable masks are piling up in landfill, with 3 million masks thrown away every minute of every day.

We’ve come a long way since the early days of Covid when masks were all sold out or in short supply. Today, you can find disposable masks in every colour of the rainbow to match your outfit, but what if we told you that there’s a more sustainable type of mask that does all that, plus eliminate viruses and bacteria upon contact?

Here to tell us more is our latest ‘8Shades Of’ interviewee, Juliana Lam, founder of Innotier. Using patented silver ion technology, Innotier masks claim to be able to disarm bacteria and viruses within a minute of contact (yes, even Covid-19), which is definitely worth looking into if you’d like extra protection during the pandemic.

  1. In one sentence, tell us what you do!

Integrating innovation and technology to develop products that help people live a more sustainable life.

2. Why are you an 8Shader?

Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, people are using an increasing amount of disposable masks and it causes a massive amount of waste in the world. Not only are we polluting the planet, but this is a burden to the next generation as well. In order to encourage people to live a more sustainable lifestyle, I developed a passion to partner with different companies around the world to help change this.

7. How do Innotier masks compare to disposable masks?

Surgical and disposable masks have Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) and Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE) features, but the viruses and bacteria still stick on the surface of the mask. They also need to be changed once every 2-3 hours, which means using 3-4 masks per day.

On the other hand, our INNOTIER InnoShield Champion Series SXM99 mask usesIonic+™ silver technology with 99.9% pure silver woven directly into the mask fabric. What this does is attract negatively charged viruses and bacteria, burst the cell membrane walls and destroy their DNA.

Reusable for up to 200 washes, our masks are proven to inhibit and eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus (which causes COVID-19) in less than a second. No viruses and bacteria and remain on the surface of the mask, making it a safe, protective and sustainable option versus disposable masks.

8. What shade of green are you?

I am somewhere in the middle between light and dark green. I’m definitely not new to sustainability but I definitely feel that there is so much more we can do to make the planet greener.
